Rockcliffe is a four-minute drive from Denmark town, down a road lined with karri forest and farmland. The cellar door is open seven days a week, tastings are free, and there's pizza, gelato and a lot of good wine. You might only plan on a quick tasting, but we can strongly recommend that you take a little more time to enjoy the experience.
Here's how a day with us usually goes.
11am: Doors open, glasses poured
Come in, say hi and tell us what you like to drink. We start with our Methode Traditionelle Sparkling NV before moving on to whites, reds and finishing with our sweeter and fortified wines. With 30 wines on our tasting list to choose from, there is something to suit every palate, but we encourage you to try the ones you wouldn't normally pick. That's how most people find a new favourite. Everything we make comes from the Great Southern, and the vineyard here sits less than 15 kilometres from the Southern Ocean. The sea breeze cools the vines through summer and slows the ripening, which is what gives our wines their freshness.
Midday: Have a wander
Take your glass outside and wander amongst the 40-year-old vines and our granite boulder feature. Kids can stretch their legs, and the dog is welcome too. We're a pet-friendly, kid-friendly winery, so bring the whole family.
1pm: Lunch
By now you'll be hungry. Our pizzas come out of a solar-powered oven, hot and blistered at the edges, and they're made for sharing. If you'd rather graze, order a platter of local cheese and cured meats and make a meal of it with a bottle of whatever you liked best at the tasting, or try something a little different - we’re proud to pour Artisan Brewing beers at Rockcliffe, crafted right here in the Great Southern by Brian and Julia Fitzgerald.
Rosé with pizza is hard to beat. Our Chardonnay works well with a cheese platter, and a glass of Pinot Noir goes with just about everything. If you can't decide, ask us. We're happy to help you decide!
Heading out with a group? Book a table ahead of time so we can have somewhere ready for you.
3pm: Stay a little longer
This is the part of the day most visitors don't plan for. Lunch is done, the plates are cleared and nobody wants to leave yet. Order another glass, find a spot in the shade and settle in. Talk, or don't. Watch the breeze move through the vines and see what the afternoon does.
4pm: Something sweet
Before you head off, make room for dessert. Our gelato is made the traditional way from locally sourced ingredients with no artificial flavours. The fudge is homemade too, and the lemon meringue has a loyal following. Grab a box for the drive home.
5:30pm to 7:30pm (every Friday)
If you really want to drink every last drop of the Rockcliffe experience, join us on a Friday from 5:30 to 7:30pm as we kick off the weekend with a live music session.
Before you go
Pick up a few bottles to take with you. The wine you liked most is the obvious choice, but a bottle of something different is a good way to remember the day when you open it at home. You can also join the Rock Stars Club while you're here. You'll get two curated wine deliveries a year, in May and November, plus early access to new releases and invitations to events.
