Experience the depth of Rosé

Rosé is celebrated for its captivating array of pink hues — from the subtle blush of salmon to the playful brightness of cotton candy and the rich shade of geranium. Contrary to common belief, Rosé is not simply a blend of red and white wines; its creation involves a delicate balance of technique and timing.

It can be crafted from any variety of red or black wine grapes, including Pinot Noir, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. During the winemaking process, the juice is allowed to macerate with the skins for a few hours, depending on the desired intensity of colour. This contact suffuses the wine with its signature pink tint.

Once the desired colour is achieved, the grape skins are removed, and the juice continues to ferment. The best Rosé wines feature the robust body of a red wine and are served chilled.

Flavour profiles

Rosés are cherished for their vibrant red fruit flavours — strawberries, raspberries and red cherries — blended harmoniously with the zest of pink grapefruit and the tartness of rhubarb. Citrus and melon notes add a crisp, refreshing undertone, while floral aromas like orange blossom provide a delicate finish.

Some Rosés explore deeper, more complex notes such as plum, pomegranate and even savoury hints of red meat and bacon, offering a broader palette of tastes.

Nestled in the heart of the Great Southern Wine Producing Region, Rockcliffe Winery thrives in a diverse and fertile viticultural landscape. The region’s cool climate and granitic soil profiles enhance the distinct character of our wines. Explore our selection now and buy Rosé wine crafted from the finest grapes.

Rosé and food pairings

Explore how the subtle nuances of the best Rosé wines can enhance every meal, creating perfect harmony on your palate.

• Creamy white cheeses

Rosé is an exquisite choice for cheese boards. It enhances creamy cheeses like mozzarella and Brie as well as bolder, tangy varieties such as French feta and assorted goat cheeses.

• Salads

Rosé wine, with its light and herbal notes, is an ideal companion for green salads. It elevates the natural sweetness of lettuce and harmonises beautifully with common salad toppings, such as cheese, tomatoes, ham and fruit.

• Shellfish

A crisp, dry Rosé beautifully complements seafood favourites like roasted lobster, shrimp, oysters and seared scallops.

• Tomato dishes

The vibrant fruitiness and refreshing acidity of Rosé wine perfectly balance the earthy sweetness of tomatoes. Consider pairing a dry Rosé with pasta or a classic bruschetta.

• Fruity desserts

Sweeter Rosés, such as Pink Moscato and White Zinfandel, are known for their fruity flavours. Pair these delightful wines with a fresh fruit salad, a peach tart or a classic strawberry shortcake, making each bite more enjoyable.
